During the industrial revolution of the United States during the nineteenth century, America began producing a great variety and volume of goods at a pace beyond anything ever seen before. As demand for consumer products increased, a problem arose. Manufacturers weren’t sure how to transport goods from one place to another. Initially, the only means for transport over land was by horse-drawn vehicles. However, with the invention and improvement on the train system and its infrastructure, consumers were well on their way to receiving the products they so desired.
For many years, the train system was the easiest way to transport items from one place to another on land (ships were the most popular way to transport products overseas).
